Last Days of First Grade

Aidan told us he wanted to go to summer school. He loves school. I am so proud of Aidan for doing good and working hard. He had a great year of First Grade. Way to go Aidan!

This year he had a whole day with no work at school. It involved a walk-a-thon and lots of activities with a theme of the Oregon Trail and western style. I took so many pictures. He had fun.

Bare Feet in Winter?

Today I saw a funny sight. I did not have to go anywhere but my own livingroom looking out the window. Three sets of tiny bare feet and a shirtless crazy cat! My son decided that since it was 44 degrees outside he would play and ride his bike from 2:50-5 pm. He went over to his neighbor friend's house first. They took a bike ride about two blocks away to get another friend to play with. They ended on our front ramp/ deck making pretend snowcones in bare feet. His friends are not only neighbors but classmates. It was too cute! I had to tell them to put their socks, shoes, and other clothes on when I noticed the child without a shirt. That was a little much for 44 degrees. I finally realized that we were having a class party when yet another friend/classmate showed up two doors down and came over to say hi. I love the time change and longer daylight hours as well as the warm temps.!!!!

A Pile-up!

What a bad pile-up. I am not talking about cars. I am talking about that pile in my bedroom. There is another pile between the children's bedrooms. The biggest pile is by our backdoor on a landing at the top of our basement stairs. Finally, although there is a little pile in the clothes hamper, there is a huge pile in front of the washer and dryer in the basement. This is the same pile-up I see at least 2 times a week! In fact last week I swear I found a friend's missing sock in my basket, only to find the matching pair to the little thing. Come to find out it was Jaren's, my nephew, pair of socks that were brought up to Austin from Iowa in a dirty clothes pile-up in a bag. I have no idea when Jaren will see these again. I am thinking around Easter time, which seems too far away. It has been quite the day. I am going to bed. lol

A Tough Student...

I went to Aidan's school today and volunteered for 45 minutes with Jr. Great Books. Aidan is one of the six children I work with every Tuesday. Today we had to read the story for another time in class as another student did not even get to read it one time. The whole thing is very simple, read the first session and do a drawing, take it home to read with a parent and develop a question, finally come back for session two and have a discussion and activity. Well, Aidan got very bored while I read it for his third time. So I had him turn his green card to yellow. He seems to like giving me a tough time on a day when he chooses. He does not want the next card color which is red, then he will have to complete a form with his teacher and bring it home for me to sign. It is a fine behavioral management plan. He did okay once I was done reading the story. I am constantly tring to figure out the best way to help these children learn. He really is a tough student.

Another Snow day!

Aidan came home from school at 12:30 today. Cece was home at her usual time. Aidan is watching "Babes In Toyland". We went bowling on Friday night, just Aidan, Dad, and Mom. Dad was in first, Aidan was second with 115 and I can in last, well under 100. We only played 1 game. It was a fun game!
